Gloria Miller (Vice President) has been a member of Unity Church for over ten years. I was invited to the church by a friend. The first time I came I told my friend that it was a small church and my friend said that that’s what she liked about it. When I walked in they sang a song. At the end of the song the Reverend said “Turn to someone and say thank you for being here.” I said to myself “Someone’s thanking me for coming to church?” At another point in the service the reverend said to take a deep breath, release, relax and everything was silent. At that point I could hear my heart beating. I realized I needed that moment just for myself. The following Sunday I was so excited as I got ready but when I asked my friend if she was going to church she replied no. I told her we have to go but she said she doesn’t go every Sunday. I asked her for directions to get there because I had to go. I got there late. Ever since then I’ve been coming to Unity. It has made me a better person.

Akwete Letlow (Secretary) When Akwete picked up a copy of the 2000 edition of the Daily Word off the ground in her native Freeport, NY, she had no idea what Divine Order meant nor did she know it was about to occur. Seven years later, Akwete learned its definition in the form of an invite to a Good Friday service with a friend/co-worker and was moved to go back to the Resurrection Sunday (Easter) Service. At that point, she had found a place for her own resurrection, and much more in comity and service to others. She served as coordinator for the International Buffet and Fashion Show, currently serves on the Fellowship Team, and is the secretary for the Outreach and Member Support Lay Ministry. Akwete is a daughter, Auntie, girlfriend, an undercover poet, a lover of education, music, dance, dogs, and anything else that uplifts our younger citizens of the world: A perfect work in progress.
